Open letter from the Ocean Alliance Against Offshore Drilling to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero

Oceana UK has filed a legal challenge over the previous government’s approval of recent oil and gas licences. The decision to issue the new licences was unlawful on several grounds, we believe, including a failure to consider the extreme impacts of either accidental oil spills or the climate crisis.

The open letter below to the newly appointed Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Ed Miliband, raises these concerns and urges the current government to concede our legal challenge. The letter has been signed by 20 NGOs, including Oceana UK, Greenpeace UK, Friends of the Earth Scotland, Rewilding Britain, Environmental Justice Foundation, Eden Project, Project Seagrass, London Surf Film Festival, Carve Magazine, Yorkshire Seal Group, Wildlife and Countryside Link, British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Crustacean Compassion, Angling Trust, World Cetacean Alliance, Will Works, Mothers Rise Up, Hockerton Housing Project, Big Green Adventures, and Stamp Out Poverty.
