Help stop the destruction of Scotland’s seas

Bottom trawling is one of the most destructive forms of fishing still allowed in UK waters. Huge weighted nets are dragged along the seabed, decimating precious habitats like coral reefs and kelp forests. They scoop up all sea life in their path, from sharks to starfish, skates to rays – nothing is safe. Shockingly, this devastation is allowed even in marine protected areas – places that should be safe havens for ocean wildlife.

But now, we have a chance to change that.

The Scottish Government is considering banning bottom trawling in 20 marine protected areas, and they want to hear from you. It takes less than 30 seconds to use your voice to make a difference and protect Scotland’s marine life for good.

Time is running out, though. The consultation ends on the 14th October, in just a few days, so we must move fast.

81% of the UK public, including 83% in Scotland, support a ban on bottom trawling in marine protected areas, our polling shows. It’s time for the Scottish Government to deliver on this demand. You can help make this a reality by taking action, whether you live in Scotland, or elsewhere in the UK. Watch our short film The Trawl to see the damage bottom trawling causes, and then take action.

Together, we can safeguard our seas, protect marine species, and support coastal communities.
